The Better Value Rail Working Group comprising of the Department for Transport, Network Rail and the Office of Rail and Road have provided us with intial feedback on our feasibility study.

Feedback confirms that the study presents a strong and detailed case for the reinstatement of a rail link on the corridor, whilst clearly identifies transport need and the benefits that would be delivered.

We have been asked to expand our study in a couple of areas and our Steering Group have now started to action these requirements.

Derbyshire County Council has voted to support the continued investigation and development of our Peaks and Dales Line proposals.  

Work is already progressing on the next stage of our project, the Strategic Outline Business Case which will assess further the options identified in the feasibility study.

The motion supported today, recognises our efforts to establish potential solutions to the unsustainable traffic problems to, from and through the Peak District National Park.

Along with the 26 Members of Parliament who have confirmed their support for the proposal development, we are committed to continuing to examine the options for the Peaks and Dales Line corridor.

Railway Trade media outlets have started to publish our media release, as local media outlets begin to prepare the story for publication.  Publications such as Rail Technology Magazine, Rail Professional, Rail Advent have so far picked up on the media release.

The Peaks and Dales Line Feasibility Study has been submitted to the Department for Transport and is being reviewed by the Better Value Rail Team, which includes Department for Transport, Network Rail and the industry regulator, the Office of Rail and Road.

Support from 26 Members of Parliament for our proposals has today been re-confirmed as well confirmation of a motion of support being prepared for May 2026 by Derbyshire County Council.
